Former Senator for Kaduna Central, Shehu Sani, has cautioned Member of the United States House of Representatives, Riley Moore, against hasty claims of victory over terrorists in Nigeria.
Sani issued the note of caution in an X post of Sunday after Moore’s glowing praise of precision strikes launched by the US against terror targets in Sokoto.
Taking to X on Saturday, Moore said, “For the past two Christmases, Christians have been murdered in Nigeria. This year, thanks to @POTUS, Radical Islamic Terrorists were on the receiving end of 12 Tomahawk missiles as a present.
“The successful strikes on ISIS, in coordination with the Nigerian government, are just the first step to secure the country and end the slaughter of our brothers and sisters in Christ.”
However, Sani said it would take more than a series of airstrikes to vanquish terrorists in the country.
He asserted that the efforts of the Nigerian military and intelligence services contributed more to the relative peace and security enjoyed during Christmas than the US airstrikes.
Sani said, “The efforts of our Nigerian defence, security and intelligence services ensured a relatively safe and peaceful Yuletide season in most parts of our country, and not the one-off US strike as boasted by US Rep Riley.
“It’s too early to claim victory over the terrorists that are more entrenched in places other than Sokoto.”
